When temperatures drop, our heating bills go up. That’s why at Living Sitges we’d like to share some tips to help you stay warm at home while reducing your costs with a few simple steps.
What’s more, we can reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which are so harmful to our planet!
-
Rugs, blinds, curtains, and other home textiles are perfect for keeping the cold out and retaining heat inside. Nowadays, for example, there are thermal curtains on the market that stay warm for longer.
-
Windows: the key players. Contrary to what we might think, you should open the windows during the midday sun; this will warm your home, reduce humidity, and therefore make you feel less cold. Likewise, both windows and doors must be perfectly sealed. It is estimated that inadequate insulation can result in energy losses of up to 70%.
-
Household appliances as heat sources. Ovens, tumble dryers, and dishwashers are major heat emitters. Make the most of them while they’re running by opening doors and letting the temperature rise.
-
Keep your heating system in good condition. Ensure that the pipes are in perfect condition; leaks could mean you’re using more energy than necessary and that the system isn’t operating efficiently.
-
Clear the space around the heating. Wooden furniture absorbs heat, as does placing clothes or towels on top of it. To make the most of the heat, air must circulate freely.
-
Consider alternative heating for cold rooms. If you have a particularly cold room, there’s no need to turn up the heating. A more eco-friendly and visually appealing alternative is a pellet stove – a sustainable fuel that will also add a rustic touch to your home!
